  • EPDM
  • Viton

Used for a wide variety of purposes, the need to make bespoke rubber mouldings is one that many manufacturers of metal products rely on when standard parts don’t fit the requirement.

Since the early 1980s AFAC has had to make bespoke rubber mouldings to fulfil specials required by customers and to stock its own ranges of custom parts.

    Uses

    They’re everywhere!

    Industrial
Industrial grade elastomers are used throughout industry for zillions of different things. AFAC decided to make bespoke rubber mouldings in the mid 1980’s before masking catalogues were even a thing. Coming from an engineering background, AFAC’s specialism is high temperature  masking for manufacturers, engineers & metal finishers. Afac is commissioned to make bespoke rubber mouldings for all sorts of niche applications from masking light to electrical insulation, vibration reduction and chemical resistance. We even supplied the Science Museum with standard parts for an exhibit!

    Retail
Food grade is the minimum standard for manufacturing elastomers for the retail market. Food grade essentially means safe. In retail there is a need to make bespoke rubber mouldings for too many things to count. The types of products moulded from elastomers in the retail space increases exponentially, everywhere you look from phones to furniture, cookware to lighting.

    Medical
The top grade. Does what it says on the tin, it can be used in hospitals and labs. It’s not our bag and isn’t likely to be any time soon.

How quickly do things get made?

    To Begin
Use the form in the Request Quote Box and send us the details of what you need. If you need us to sign an NDA, upload it using the form or let us know what information you need from us and we’ll get that step out the way swiftly.

    Design
Got a design already? We can quote you free of charge.
Need something designing for you? Studio time is charged at an hourly rate of £200 which is payable in blocks in advance.

    Approval & Payment
Once you’ve approved the design, dimensions, material, colour and quantity, a final price is provided and a Pro-Forma raised. You can pay by credit card or bank transfer.

    Tooling
To prototype your part a charge is incurred for tooling of £250. This is a necessary step to ensure the parts work.

For volume production it’s necessary to produce a production tool from metal. This one off fee is dependent on the size and complexity of the template. It’s unusual for the tooling cost to be above £1500 for our regular customers. This one off tool will usually last the lifetime of the production needs.

    Production
Stock is held of all the standard materials, ready to mould. Using state of the art machinery, production make your bespoke rubber mouldings, bag them and seal them.

    Shipping
After we make bespoke rubber mouldings they are shipped from production in the Far East to the UK. How quickly they arrive is subject to Air or Sea and the associated costs. Customs can delay shipments at times so if you need them urgently you need to be prepared to bite the bullet on the Air Freight at £10/kilo.
