Case Study: Generator Application

AFAC makes a point of trying to offer each and every one of its customers the service they’re looking for—and if we can in some small way support British manufacturing while we’re at it, so much the better. In the first of our ongoing series of business case studies, a UK transformer manufacturer approached us to see if we could help them with the transition to a new design on one of their products.

This well-established, family company recently got in touch to talk to us about a design change. They were intending to swap the connection terminal on their product from a stud to a spade connector. The reason for coming to AFAC was that this product is varnished during the finishing process and it’s critical not to contaminate the connector during the application of the varnish.

Initially, they attempted to protect the new spade connector with masking tape but it didn’t prove satisfactory. Not only was it time consuming but it was only marginally successful in doing the job of protecting the connector from varnish. Another solution needed to be found.

Thankfully, the MD contacted AFAC and we were able to quote for silicone rubber rectangular caps that would be ideal for the job. We sent over a selection of sample caps for them to try during the finishing process to see which one worked best for the job in hand.

This was the result:

[quote]Thank you for the samples. We tried them yesterday with good results.
We are going to try a production run on a specific order of ours. Please see our attached order.

A good result for them was a good result for us—another satisfied customer.

Whatever the shape or size of the aperture or area that needs masking, we are sure to have a product that fits. AFAC supplies an enormous variety of plugs, caps, tubes and customised parts. These can be produced in a range of rubbers, including silicone rubber, Viton rubber, natural rubber, neoprene or EPDM rubber, as well as PVC caps. The most extensive ranges are made from silicone rubber for use in powder coating.

AFAC distributes worldwide direct and via stockists. For information on our products and how to order them, visit our website: www.afac.co.uk
